Times just named it the restaurant of the year. Chef Gilberto Cetina Jr. is the first-generation prodigal son of the legendary family behind Chichen Itza. To say that he has a passion for quality mariscos is an understatement. Holbox's refined mariscos take inspiration from the beautiful eponymous island located in Yucatán’s neighboring state of Quintana Roo, only with the benefit of the having Baja, Mexico's seafood capital, just three hours away. The oyster selection is always rotating, and not to sound like a broken record, but L.A. TACO members get two free oysters when they purchase any meal.
Brine Oyster House opens Saturday, Aug. 5 for their grand opening celebrations then re-opening for service again on Wednesday, Aug. 9. The restaurant will offer dinner service Wednesday – Saturday from 5 p.m. Brine Oyster House will be open for dinner five days a week, including a “Fish & Chip Friday,” plus weekend brunch, and will host occasional live music acts. The tie-in with Bricks Pizzeria comes from Trenton Chamberlain’s hospitality group, which, with the opening of Brine, now owns and operates four restaurants on lower Kercheval in the Park. The others are Red Crown and Le Rouge Boulangerie.
The restaurant opened officially Saturday, Aug. 5, National Oyster Day — yes, there actually is one — to patronage so high the staff was effectively commemorating National Work Like a Dog Day. He continued sharpening his devotion to high-quality seafood, eventually opening this brick-and-mortar concept in Silver Lake in 2019.
